For Nicole, Stephanie & Ryan...

Tonight's blog entry is for the O'Connor kids, Nicole, Stephanie & Ryan.  While I don't have any kids of my own, I have kids via my friends that I adore.  For these kids, there isn't anything I wouldn't do for them.  They can pretty much get away with anything around me as I would fall for their cute little faces every time!

Nicole is 10 going on 30, blossoming into a young lady.  She is as smart as she is beautiful. She is outgoing & outspoken.  She loves horses.  She can talk to the adults & keep up her end of the conversation.  She is at the pre-teen age when she is looking to become a woman, but you still want her to be a kid.  Secretly you know she is growing up, but you want it to stop...well, at least for a little while longer.  I'll never forget her asking me, hand on her hip, what my intentions were with her uncle.  She was six at the time!  For the record, her uncle is my best friend...nothing more. (Sorry Nic!)

Stephanie is 8.  The athlete of the group.  She is the wild one.  She is resiliant as she is sweet. She has these cute little freckles across her nose.  It makes me laugh as I had them too when I was her age.  She will reveal during our dinner out Sunday that her usual order from Mister Softee is a vanilla cone with colored sprinkles...mine too!!  She is a huge Justin Bieber fan.  And she has me hooked on going to Build-A-Bear.  She is also curious & outgoing.

Ryan is 6.  He is the cutest little dude in town!  He has these adorable brown eyes & that little smirk that melts your heart.  You can't say no to him...I dare you to try!  And he has these cute chubby cheeks that everyone likes to squish.  Plus he is funny without trying.  And he enjoys drawing.

They each have their own personalities.
They each have their own special spark.

While out to dinner Sunday night, I get to sit with these three great kids & get a ton of ideas to add to my 40 things list. I love their enthusiasm for my list.  They are always giving me ideas. They are into this mission for me.  Okay, they are also looking forward to joining me on a few of these missions.  And I'm looking forward to the missions that I can invite them on.  I'm pretty sure there are going to be several....

So tonight's blog entry is for Nicole, Stephanie & Ryan.  For all their hard work of thinking up ideas.  For all the laughs.  For all the good vibes they send my way.  For all the fun things I am going to do because of them.

Oh & thanks to their dad Brian for the idea of going to Five Guys for breakfast, lunch & dinner so I can say I had 15 guys in one day!  haha!  Good one!

Trisha, we'll work out the details on some of these missions.  I've already started doing the price checking on most of them.  And I'm actually looking forward to going to Build-A-Bear...even if we do it before the 40 weeks actually start.

Keep in mind folks, not only do the O'Connor kids get to give me ideas.  There is still time to make your suggestions for the list.

Is it Spring yet?

I'm so tired of the cold dreary winter.  It's time for Spring to get here!  I'm ready for the flowers to bloom, the grass to grow, & the temps to warm up.  Oh & that snow to melt!  OMG!  The piles of snow have melted...but there is still a little more left.

I've been going over my list of suggestions.  I have already picked out 5 things that I am definitely going to do.  I should have a few more picked out & planned soon.  Then I will leave it to all of you to pick out the other 20 things I do.  I can't wait.  I'm looking forward to these weekly missions.

So my book club is set for next month.  We are reading 'The Five People You Meet in Heaven' by Mitch Albom.  Great book.  I'm looking forward to getting a group of my friends together to discuss good books.  I'm looking forward to reading books I wouldn't have otherwise read.  Should be fun.

I'm also looking forward to my tea party.  I've been searching the web looking for supplies for this party.  I actually found a website that sells personalized tea bags!  I might actually order them. Plus I found plenty of tea sets.  I am still debating on whether to use a matching set or mismatched teacups.  We'll see.  But I am sure that I want some help on the menu.  I found a few good recipes for tea sandwiches, but if anyone knows anything I should have on the menu, I'm open for suggestions.  Post away!

And there is still plenty of time to post suggestions on things for me to do.  So get to it!

Here is the list as of tonight...

# 17 eat a papaya...

DONE!

I had a lovely brunch Sunday with my friend Raul.  He is a vegetarian & I love trying new places with him.  While I'm not a vegetarian, I do like some of the foods from time to time.  And we both love this place in Rockville Center called Three Brothers.  If you're ever in the area, I highly suggest you check the place out.  And while they have a vegan friendly menu, they also have a menu for us carnivores!

So we hit Three Brothers for brunch & finish our chat about my tea party obsession.  Oh yes folks, I am still excited about having a tea party.  While discussing my obsession for the perfect tea set, I ask Raul if we can hit Home Goods before going to the mall.  I know Home Goods is a few minutes away from Three Brothers & Raul agrees we can make the stop.

Home Goods, for those that don't have this store near them, is a great place for all the little things you didn't realize you need, want or just plainly MUST have.  If you are in the area of one, you know they have great deals on everything for your home.  So I figured we'd stop in & check out this weeks stock.  Plus I was looking for a tea strainer...which I didn't find.

I immediately find a St. Patrick's Day themed teapot which I MUST have.  (I will later find a crack in the handle, which of course means this is going back to the store for a replacement.)  And of course there is a matching teacup & saucer set that I MUST have.  I will be convinced by Raul that I need these agave nectars.  I will find out later that they are a MUST have being so yummy!  Plus the price is right...$4 a bottle versus $6 in other stores.

Next we head to the mall so Raul can pick up some tea in Teavana.  This place is wild!  Great scents.  Amazing tea!  Decent pricing...but you can run your bill up pretty quickly without blinking.  Avoid the teapots & accessories as I find them to be really expensive.  Raul will secretly buy me the two chai teas that when blended together create this delightful taste.  I was hooked after trying the free sample last weekend...but didn't want to spend the money for it at that time.  Luckily this time, my friend will do it for me. (Thanks Raul!)

After the trip to the mall, we hit Whole Foods.  I've been wanting to pick up some flax seeds to help my diet.  I've been told by my trainer that flax seeds help with belly fat. I definitely need some work in that area.

So there we are in Whole Foods.  Having picked up the flax seeds & ready to hit the checkout, Raul realizes he needs bananas.  So we go to the produce aisle.  As he is picking up bananas, I suddenly realize I am in the mood for a papaya...

...and here we are back to my blog...

#17 eat a papaya...I've never had one

I love fruit. My favorite is a luscious juicey mango.  I love a plump mango on a hot summer day.  Nothing beats it...well, maybe if you freeze it...but even fresh out the cool fridge is really refreshing.  I also love cold freshly washed strawberries.  And yes, I even love them dipped in chocolate at times.  And I can eat a pound of grapes while cleaning them without realizing that I've eaten that many.

So getting fruit into my diet is not a problem.
But never having tried a papaya is just not natural in my world.

The papaya is sitting in the fridge chilling as I head over to visit Raul.  He's offered to grind the flax seeds in his coffee grinder for me & I bring him a sample of this yummy black tea that is ginger peach apricot flavored.  Plus I take him the rest of the coconut sample bag from Adagio Teas.  Yummy stuff!!

Fast forward to tonight.  I come home from work & realize that papaya isn't getting any younger & neither am I!  Time to cut into it.  So I take the papaya out of the fridge.  It was already cut & the seeds removed.  There was a lime slice & some kiwi slices on it.  I read on-line that squeezing some lime juice over it makes the papaya taste better.  So here I go...ready for my first papaya.

I slice off the rind & cut some slices.  I taste one piece & it's pretty good.  Juicey.  Delicious. Nice.  I can't believe I've never had papaya before.  So then I start laying a few slices on a plate, grab the lime slice & squeeze some lime juice over the sliced papaya.  Not bad.  Very tropical. Very sweet & tart & yummy.  Not bad.  I should have tried this sooner.

So #17 eat a papaya is now done.  I've had one!  And I have to say, I'll be picking up more the next time I'm in Whole Foods.

Okay, so for those of you that haven't heard...Punxsutawney Phil, the Groundhog, predicts an early spring.  I hope so!  I am so over this snow.  This winter has been really brutal.  Very draining on me.  I'm ready for spring.  For warm sunny days.

May 1st will be here soon enough.  And pretty soon I'm going to have to finish planning my 20 weeks & you'll have to vote on the 20 you suggest I do.  So there is still time to make a suggestion.  I'm open for some fun ideas on things to do!

Here is the list as of tonight...

#34 ask out a certain guy at the gym...

DONE!!!!!

I'm the kind of person who can do silly things (like this blog mission) & I don't need to be dared to do it (like wearing the pink wig to the Breast Cancer Walk). So it should not surprise you that I finally got the chance to give a guy my phone number with the plan of asking him out. The giving out my phone number part is a big risk for me. I have only given out my number twice...the first guy never called. And #2...well...read on....

I have been going to this gym around my neighborhood for about a year now. I even have an awesome trainer who spanks me into shape on a weekly basis. I love it. I love sweating like a beast as I'm slimming down.

I also love chatting w/the people I meet there. And of course I love checking out the men there. And I love that I get checked out as well.

Then along comes P.

P is a friend of my trainer. He is a guy that I will become fast friends with & I will eventually work up the nerve to ask him out. Over the last year, I would see him from time to time. We'd always strike up a conversation about my trainer & how I'm getting spanked. P will over the coarse of the year tell me he can see the results. (Yippee!!!) And over the year I will start to see P in a new light.

So fast forward to my last training session on the morning of Jan17th. I am off from work to take care of some things & decide to schedule an early training session. I end up chatting w/my trainer about P. I ask if he's seen him...which he has & he lets it slip that P has been asking about me.

OMG! My heart is all a flutter. I feel like I'm back in high school suddenly.

I casually play it cool & my trainer tells me that he thinks we should get together already. It's been long enough that we keep asking about each other. So he tells me flat out, 'Just ask him out already'...

...and here we are back to my blog...

#34 ask out a certain guy at the gym

It's now Wednesday night. I head into the gym & try not to be too obvious as I look around for P. Nope. Don't see him. Damn. I throw my bag into a locker, grab my towel, book, bottle of water & head out for a bike to do some great cardio tonight.

I'm on the bike & every so often I glance up from the book & look for P. Nope. Still not around. I'm about fifteen minutes on the bike ride & I see someone out of the corner of my eye. Yup, it's him. He was on a bike two spots away. He sees me looking up & we smile at each other. Then he comes over.

There is the usual exchange of pleasantries. 'Happy New Year', 'haven't seen you in a few weeks', 'how was your holiday?'...yup, our usual chat. Then I started remembering # 34 on the list...ask out a certain guy at the gym. This is one I put on the list & it's about P. So here is the opportunity to do it.

I'm going for it.

I don't care that I'm sweating like a beast & that my hair isn't perfect.

I don't care that I have on no make-up.

I'm still me.

I'm beautiful & I'm going for it.

Screw waiting for him to ask me out already.

I can do this!

I am a smart woman with a lot to offer the right man.

Let's see if it's him...shall we?

Without realizing it, I'm still doing my awesome cardio workout & we are chatting away.
'They say more snow is coming'
'Hopefully not too bad'
'Hopefully it's not as bad as the snow we had last week or the day after Christmas'
'Hopefully it be just a light flurry'
'I have to get to Pathmark to pick up food because the news is making it out to be a huge storm coming'
'Yeah, they like to freak us out over nothing'
'I know'
'Hey...I was wondering if you'd like to go for some coffee sometime???' (hopefully it didn't sound too desparate)
No ackward silence, or even the dreaded long pause, but a response of 'Sure, let me get your number'

And with that, I gave P my number.

So of course I'm glad I saw him & chatted & now I am flipping out waiting for the phone to ring. I will freak out until that phone rings & it's him. Anyone else calling is going to annoy me. I'm not going to be happy answering the phone until it's P. And then I am going to play it cool & act like I wasn't waiting for his call at all.

Yes folks, this is what we all do.

Chicks do it.
Guys do it.
We all do it.

And you can't tell me any differently.

We are all human & we all just want to be loved.

So by now you want to hear about the call...

Thursday...no call.
No big deal...give him time to work up the nerve to make that first call.
Friday...no call.
I have plans to get out anyway, so I'll wait.
Saturday...no call.
Plans again, not even paying attention to the phone.
Sunday...no call.
Watching the Jets game...not paying attention to much else.
Monday...no call.
The Jets lost, a new week is starting...hmm...no call? No problem.
Tuesday...no call.
Umm...yeah...what's with the delay here?
Wednesday...no call.
It's been a week now since I gave P the magic numbers. Did he put it in his cell phone in the right order?

For the record, I will have polled every guy I know. They all agree the average wait time is about two weeks.
TWO WEEKS?!?!?!?!?!
Are you kidding me???
In two weeks I will have hit on at least a dozen other guys!
Fourteen days...OMG!
I won't wait fourteen seconds for water to boil let alone fourteen days for a guy to call me.

For the record, I am a TRUE Taurus. VERY IMPATIENT!!!!

Thursday...no call.
It's been snowing a lot lately here...so umm...what's his excuse? He should have time to call...but luckily I will spend the day playing in the snow, so the phone will be home where I can't see if there is or isn't a call. (For the record...there obviously wasn't a call!!!)
Friday...no call.
I'll blog about something else...my new teapot & my plans for the tea party.
Saturday...no call.
Are you kidding me????? I'm about to give up.
Sunday...no call.
Good thing I was out looking for a tea set otherwise I would have been pissed.
Monday...no call.
Seriously???
Tuesday...no call.
13 days now...what gives? A certain brother from upstairs will tell me to move on. He's right. Why bother counting any more days. P isn't going to call...oh well...his loss will be someone else's gain.

By the way, I'll be keeping #10 get set up on a blind date on the list...it might come in handy.

Back to the blog...

I'm getting ready to set a date for my first book club get together. Sara & I have been talking books more & more during my invites to dinner with her & Craig. I am loving these dinner nights. Not just for my play date with a certain little two year old, but for the chats with Sara. I'm so glad I have a good friend so close to home! And once we set the date I will gladly announce what book we are reading so you can join along. Maybe that means a new blog has to be started...

Anyway, I haven't made another other plans yet. But you will be glad to know I ordered some teacup & saucers for the tea party. I found a pretty pattern on this website called Replacements. They sell stuff that is discontinued or hard to find. So I ordered eight & I will work on finding a matching teapot for it.
